The Colonel's Cup
The Club's season-long bogey championship, awarded for the best aggregate margin against Colonel Bogey.
The Colonel's Cup is the Club's premier competition, and it could hardly be anything else: the bogey match is the official format, and the margin against Colonel Bogey is the Club's only arithmetic. The Cup simply keeps that arithmetic over a whole season.
Every counting round is scored as a match against the Colonel—who plays bogey on every hole, without effort or joy—and each Member's result is recorded as a margin: so many holes up or down against him. Those margins accumulate across the season, and the Cup goes to the best aggregate. Because the Colonel never has a bad day and never has a good one, the standard is perfectly flat; what the Cup rewards is the Member who, round after round, stayed closest to honest bogey golf. It is the rare club championship that a steady walker can win over a long hitter, which is exactly the point. The Colonel does not care how far you carry it. He cares whether you made bogey here.
